How did you first get into cycling and photography?

I started cycling when I went to the University of Georgia, I bought a bike for $400 and I was terrible. Eventually I got “okay,” and I was a low-end pro in the US, which is a long, long way from racing something like the Tour de France. While I was racing I met Ashley: she crossed the street in front of me and said hi. I said hi back and started following her and talking to her some more. A couple months later we moved to Austria and started doing some travelling, just taking photos and posting them to Facebook. A friend said that we should do that “for real,” and put us in contact with a magazine editor which is where we got our start.

What’s one of your favorite trips you’ve shot?

We did a trip to Iceland two years ago, which was really hard but really rewarding. It was a very special trip for us, and the first article we ever wrote for Bicycling magazine. Iceland is like going to a different planet, while we were there I kept thinking “this is like nothing I’ve ever seen, I haven’t seen pictures like this before.” One of us would drive the car, and the other would ride for 2 or 3 hours, and then we’d switch. When you spend 24 hours a day with a person, 364 days a year, sometimes you can become more business partners than friends, and that trip really took us back.
